Jesse received a timely phone call that provided Pat with the opportunity to share her uneasiness with Kathy.

"And there was no name on the card? Then, how do you know it was Henry's?"

Pat raised her eyebrows and bit her bottom lip signaling Kathy to lower her voice. Nevertheless, she'd already made sure the man was busy with some other customers before bringing out the subject.

"It has to be him," she whispered. "We've known each other since we were kids, and I've always had the impression that he was secretly in love with me. He just never said a word. He's always been nice to me, and since my divorce - or maybe some time before - he's been so kind to Steph… She comes here often to play in his kitchen. She likes to pretend she's helping Henry's sister, Dorothy, with the cooking. Have you met Dorothy? You should. She's a very nice person."

"It might have been Dorothy, then, who sent the flowers. The card doesn't necessarily imply it was a man. I mean, it just says From a friend. Although I have to admit that if I wished to offer my condolences with a bunch of flowers, I would… write my name on the card. You're right. On second thoughts, there could be something else."

Pat bit her lip again. This time as someone who is leaving the best part for last.

"And I still haven't told you about the letter."
