A stronger breeze passed over Caitlin warming her. "I knew you'd approve." She stood straighter and prouder, amazed at the fullness surrounding her. Garrett approached her, gently tapping her shoulder. As she turned he was surprised to see calmness and serenity.

"Did you find anything?" Caitlin asked.

Confused, Garrett waited a moment to answer. He nodded. "Arson. They found am empty gasoline container and a lighter."

Somehow Caitlin knew, but hoped it had been an accident. The house was old, but who and why? Caitlin asked herself. What if he comes back? Nothing's left, except me. Caitlin shivered as that idea crossed her mind again. "Any idea who did it?"

Garrett cringed.

"You promised to tell me the truth."

"They don't know but they're tracking MacKay right now."

"Scott? No, I already told you he set up the meeting and then left town."

"Maybe he wanted it destroyed to prove a point to his boss. Maybe this was all part of their plan. This makes you more willing to sell."

Shaking her head, Caitlin thought about their last conversation. Though she had not uncovered many of his secrets, she knew, without doubt, this was not his doing. "He didn't do it. He liked the place too much. I saw a glimmer of hope in his eyes when he looked at the house."

"Caitlin, sweetie, you know I have never trusted him, but I do trust you. We have to be realistic, even if he didn't light the match, he knows who did."

Caitlin shuddered at the thought. She believed Scott was the scapegoat in this situation. Scott had a good heart, she sensed it when they were together, but something or someone held him back from realizing his full potential. That's the person with whom I needed to speak. Scott was protecting me from day one, wasn't he? I have to talk with him, regardless of what anyone says. Garrett touched her shoulder and she cringed. "It's time you tell me the truth," Garrett said.

"My shoulder's burned."

"Burned? Why didn't you tell me last night? How bad is it?"

"Not bad. It only hurts when someone touches it."

Shaking his head, Garrett escorted Caitlin to his truck. "We're going to the doctor's right now."

"Fine." She refused to argue because her shoulder did hurt. There was nothing left here for her, now. Soon she would change that. This person may have taken away her things, but she would find the momentum to keep going with her plans.
