The dream was like a recollection of her life that she cherished so preciously. The sound of the lute surrounded her. After a while, it disappeared gradually.
Her dream started to become more and more surreal, along with the disappearance of the sound of the lute. Alarmed by the sudden change, she immediately tried to trace it back. She had to use some spells along the way.
When she could finally stabilize her dream, abrupt pains in her head made her realize that a piece of memory, which did not belong to her, was being forcefully added into her dream.
After a while, she finally woke up from the dream. She slowly opened her eyes and was immediately shocked.
She was lying in a delicate crystal coffin. There were some precious items in the coffin as well, surrounding her like a wreath.
Her current circumstance was completely alarming, like a funeral for people to say their last goodbyes.
She was even more shocked by the two faces that were looking at her from the top of the coffin.
There were a man and a woman, both looking very elegant. To her, both of them were familiar faces.
They were King of the mermaids, Lan Yaoguang and his sister, Lan Jingyi.
Gu Xijiu’s eyes met theirs. Without making any further remarks, Lan Yaoguang and Lan Jingyi could be seen brightening up with immense joy. They looked happy and somewhat disbelieved. “Sister,” they called out in unison.
Gu Xijiu did not know what to respond. Her brain started to wrap around a piece of memory that seemed to resemble a dream.
The memory was very vivid, like a reminder for the past that she had long forgotten. In the memory, she was the empress of the mermaids.
Also, the memory was scattered into different pieces. The fragments were messed up, as though it had been forcefully added together to make up a picture. If Gu Xijiu had not heard about story before, there was no way she could make any sense of it.
The pieces of memory flashed before her. Gu Xijiu tried to connect the dots to understand it better. It turned out to be the same story as the one that Di Fuyi had once told her about the empress of the mermaids.
The story was a little moving and tragic. Anyone who had experienced the tragedy personally would be devastated.
With the empress’s last few breaths, she had to entrust her loved ones to someone else. She was almost dying, but all she had to face was a sky full of whirling snow and pools of blood.
Gu Xijiu felt that the empress of the mermaids must have been in great remorse, for she had not been able to see her lover for the last time before her death.
The flash of memory felt like a three-dimension movie that was narrating someone else’s story. She was like an outsider that was not playing any part to any of it, so she could not truly feel how the empress felt in her dying moments.
“Sister, you are finally awake!” Lan Yaoguang’s eyes started to fill with tears. “We have been waiting for you for five thousand years!”
“Sister!” Lan Jingyi rubbed her nose, seemingly unconvinced. “Are you really my sister. Jingke?”
“Of course she is!” Lan Yaoguang continued in a firm tone. “Brother Huang finally found all the pieces of her broken soul. Her body can finally come back to life with the reattachment. Now that she is awake, she must be our true sister.”
Gu Xijiu was obviously confused and helpless. Lan Yaoguang extended his hand to her and greeted her warmly. “Sister, do you still recognize me? I am Yaoguang, your little brother!” He then pointed at Lan Jingyi and continued, “She is your little sister, Jingyi. When you left, she was still a little child, but you loved her so much.”
Gu Xijiu was awestruck. What kind of situation was this? What was everyone doing? Who could enlighten her on what was going on?
She decided to ignore Lan Yaoguang, whom she felt was annoying. She tried to calm herself down. A sudden thought occurred to her, so she quickly got up and took a look at her fine and slim hands. Her fingers were now long and slender.
Something on her wrist had caught her attention. There was a bracelet on her wrist, glowing faintly in numerous colors.
