“Is everyone present?” he asked looking at the empty seat across him.

“We are all present,” Angie said circling the cross necklace on her neck.

“Thanks you all for coming,” Paul cleared his throat, “To make things short, I would appreciate if you kept your opinions and questions until I’m done.” He squared the documents in front of him and began with his speech. “I Brock McAllister, resident of Westfield, state of Ohio do declare that this is my last will and testament therefore revoking all the wills in the past. I nominate and appoint my friend Paul Shaw to execute this will.

Flora listened with half an ear as Paul read the duties of the executor. She didn’t care about the duties, her mind was filled with other things. She scanned the room but Ricky was nowhere to be seen, could he have left? She asked herself. The tension that filled the room was almost tangible. A few seconds later, Ricky entered the room and sat on the empty chair next to her, the clean scent of his after shave teased her nose. Paul paused for a minute but Betty motioned him to continue.

Ricky’s hand brushed hers as he placed his arm on his chair. His shirt touched her bare skin, she tried to stay still like nothing happened. Paul paused and Flora returned her gaze to him. She watched Paul set each read page aside.
