"We should be able to hold them to the crater's edge for some time," said Jonden. "It seems a good place to teach them that they are overconfident."

`Brave words', thought Baldric to himself. `The Enemy's numbers are more than sufficient to supply them with all the confidence they require'. He took a deep breath and gazed a long moment at Morlock's castle.

If Belloc was to be able to approach the castle, Baldric would have to succeed in drawing these forces away.

"There are to be no heroics," he said, and turned to Éhal. "Do not let yourselves be drawn within their range of fire."

Éhal nodded, eyes lowered.

"Good," he said. "Then let's announce ourselves, shall we?"
