"As a consequence, he soon tired of his creation, leaving it far from complete. But being unfinished, there was Good and Evil that wasn't worked into the worldly tapestry. Both were left free to work their will.

"But neither had shape or form, so they had to work their will through worldly things. The only worldly quality that could assist them in acting out their will in the real world was magic. There are some who believe that the essence of the unworked Good and Evil is magic, and that wizards are lesser weavers, pale imitators of the creator. But that is another tale.

"According to the tale, Evil had a much easier time, seducing those who were hungry for wealth or power. For some reason, Good had a much harder time, appealing to health, a sense of beauty, and the relationship to the Earth Mother.

"I suppose this is because Good is unselfish and complex in its rewards. For example, when Good is done, one is left with the reward of having done something beneficial for something or someone other than yourself.

"But the moment one does something for selfish reasons, only bad can come of it."

"Such as?" Curious, but sceptical of the story itself.

"Well, if Belloc or I were to create a living thing whose sole purpose in life was to serve one of us, such a creature would be a slave. Being a slave, it would hate its creator, and itself."
