“You slept all day.”

“Maybe I’m sore.”

“We’ll soak in the tub for a while.” He frowns over at me as I join him at the table. “If you don’t want this, all you have to do is say no, Lauren.”

I grin and rise up on my toes to kiss his cheek. “I’m teasing you.”

He pulls me to him, wraps his arms around my middle, and buries his face in my hair. “You’re not funny.”

“I’m hilarious.”

Chapter Eleven

“Why didn’t you call me Saturday night?”

Cary is furious as I sit across from him in his office. I should be working, and instead I’m here for a meeting late Monday morning. “There was nothing you could do, Cary.”

“It had to be Jack.”

I grin at him and shrug. “Obviously, but there is no proof. No prints, nothing left behind.”

“He’s such a prick. I’m sure the protection order pissed him off. Word has gotten around town, and I heard that he’s been suspended from work.” Cary shakes his head and leans back in his chair watching me. “Is Ty staying with you?”

I nod slowly, maintaining eye contact. “Is that a problem?”

“Nope, he’s not your attorney.” Cary rubs his fingers over his mouth, deep in thought. “Lo, I know that Jack roughed you up when you kicked him out in the beginning, and now he’s destroying your house. You never did tell us what he threatened to do to you that day at your house.”

I drop my eyes and bite my lip.

“I understand if it makes you uncomfortable to talk about it around Ty, but I’m your attorney, and I need to know what’s going on, Lo. Jack’s pissed off, and if he continues like this, he could really hurt you.”

I pull in a deep breath and push my fingers through my hair and blurt out, “He didn’t use the exact words, because he’s too clever for that, but he essentially threatened to rape me.”

“What the fuck?” Cary leans forward and slaps his hands on his desk.

“He just wanted to scare me.”

“I would have agreed with you last week, but he just destroyed your pool house, Lauren. He’s obviously not stable.”

“I have an alarm system on the house and Ty’s been staying with me.” Cary shakes his head and is ready to interrupt me. “Seriously, Cary, there’s nothing more we can do when we can’t prove that he’s done anything wrong.”

“I want everything documented from here on out. If he contacts you, you record it with your phone and you call me and Brad at the station.”

“Okay.”

“I mean it, Lauren. I don’t trust this asshole.”

“I agree.”

“It sounds like we’ll get a court date regarding the matter of the trust in November.”

“November?” I stand and pace about Cary’s small office. “Jesus, Cary, that’s a month away!”

“I know. We were lucky to get in then.”

A whole month of living like this will make me crazy.

“Keep Ty close by, your alarm set, and your eyes open, Lauren.”

“I will.” I check the time and grab my purse. “I have to go. I have an appointment.”

Cary stands and shakes my hand. “I’ll be in touch.”

I nod and step out of his office and walk to Ty’s door. It’s open, so I walk in and close and lock it behind me, taking in the dark-haired man sitting behind his desk, his phone at his ear. God, he’s amazing.

His eyebrows climb when he sees me.

“That all sounds good to me, Bill. I have to go. I just had something important come into my office. I’ll be in touch next week.”

I dump my purse in his visitor’s chair, walk around his desk, and climb in his lap as he finishes his call.

“This is a nice surprise,” he murmurs, and kisses me softly. My hands travel up the sleeves of his white shirt and wrap around his neck. I tangle his hair in my fingers and hold on as he takes the kiss deeper and then softens it again.

“I’m here to treat you to lunch.”

“Oh, I wish you’d called.” He plants his lips on my forehead and takes a deep breath. “I have an appointment in five minutes.”

“I know.” I grin up at him and feel my cheeks flush as I admit, “It’s me.”

He lifts his cell phone off his desk and checks his calendar. “You’re Jenny Fisher?”

“Yeah. That’s one of my characters’ names.”

He’s grinning at me like I just told him I won a Pulitzer. “Where are we going to lunch?”

“Right here. It’s being delivered in”—I check the time on his computer—“a half hour.”

“What are we going to do for the next thirty minutes?” He buries his face in my neck, nibbling my skin softly and sending shivers through me.

“Well, I have this fantasy.”

“Oh?” He leans back to look me in the eyes. “Do tell.”

“Last night”—I slide off his lap and to my knees—“I told you that I wanted to kiss you here.” I pull my index finger down the seam of his zipper and feel the hard ridge of his erection beneath his black slacks.

He pulls in a deep breath and watches me with narrowed, heated gray eyes. “You did.”

“I want to do it here.”

“In my office.” It’s not a question.

I nod and pull his belt open, then unfasten his slacks. His lips curl into a half smile as he watches me open his pants, reach into his boxers, and uncover his hard-as-hell cock.

“You have a beautiful dick.”

“I don’t know if a guy wants his dick to be referred to as beautiful.” He laughs.

“But it is.” My hands slide up and down his length in long, easy motions. “It’s big and smooth.” I lean in and lap my tongue over the sensitive underside of the head and around the crown. “Delicious, just like I thought.”

“God, baby.” He leans his head back for just a moment, then continues to watch me. “Your hands are so fucking amazing.”

He lifts his hips so I can shimmy his pants down his hips to his thighs, giving me better access to his hard cock and tight balls.

I cup his sack in my hand, massaging gently, and wrap my mouth over his dick, pulling him into my mouth and pushing down until he reaches the back of my throat. I grip him with my lips and pull all the way back up before sucking on the head while brushing my tongue over the tip.
