It was emotionally draining, but Roy felt better just sharing the horrors from his time in the Army. When he discussed the parts about Michelle Dubois, Sara sensed tenderness from Roy as he told his tale. Sara saw a side of Roy she had never witnessed before and it endeared the man even more. Roy's eyes watered up as he relived the pain and sorrows of the past. It was a cleansing ritual he needed, for he had stifled the pain far too long. When Roy finished telling his story, he took out his bandana and wiped his face. Sara sat quietly waiting for Roy to regain his composure.

Roy's raw honesty was refreshing to Sara. She was falling in love with Roy and she knew it. His candor and honesty were intoxicating for she witnessed a man complex in tenderness and strength. Sara needed to bring herself closer to Roy so he could see she appreciated and understood Roy's sincerity. His story triggered emotions inside Sara and compelled her to open up her heart. It wasn't something she intended, but it seemed like it was the next progressive step in their relationship.

Sara was hiding her own pain and was about to share her personal story with a man whom she had intense emotional feelings. She was embarrassed about the details and didn't want to risk her relationship with Roy, but at the same time, she wanted Roy to trust her. After processing the risks, she hopped that sharing her story would draw them closer together.

"Roy, since you've been so frank with me, I feel I must share something with you. I've never told a soul the story I'm about to share, because of the shame I feel, but I want you to know everything about me."

Sara hesitated for she was about to share something that might damage this new relationship. Choosing her words, at first, Sara attempted to show the same honesty to Roy, but it was difficult.

"There is a reason why I was so abrupt with you the first day, when you came over to buy our filly." Sara looked down and folded her hands in her lap. Her lower lip quivered as she began to wring her hands.

Roy looked at Sara and could see her pain. It frightened him because he had never cared this much about anyone, and he did not know what to say. In a swift movement, Roy scooped Sara off the hearth and into his arms. He held her in his lap as they slowly rocked together in the chair. Sara curled into Roy wrapping her arms around his neck. She began with an almost whisper.
