Barrett looked at Uncle Del. "Don't you have some sort of mobile booster for areas like that?"

Uncle Dell studied his glass. "I could rent a satellite phone, but…." His troubled gaze shifted to Logan.

Logan shook his head. "As important as it would be to get a phone call out, getting help there in time would be almost impossible."

Response time would be the biggest problem. That was the case when the tree fell on him. It took 45 minutes to get an ambulance - and they met it on the highway. Still, there might be another option.

"Mary Jo knows that country. She took me out on a mule through areas even an ATV would have difficulty getting through. That's rough country."

Logan gave him a knowing smile. "She knows the country and you are an experienced woodsman. I'm beginning to think you enjoyed that trip enough to do it again."

"I would have enjoyed it more without the headache." Barrett lifted a brow. "So what's your alternate plan?"

Logan grimaced. "I don't have one, and Del's is good enough. I'm just concerned about you getting hurt. I did talk you into this."

"Yes you did, but now I don't want out."

Logan chuckled. "Why do I get the feeling that the job isn't near as attractive as the girl?"

He couldn't deny that and he didn't try. When he didn't respond, Uncle Del began to chuckle.

"I know Barrett well enough to suspect both the girl and the intrigue have him hooked. Add to that the opportunity to work in the wilderness; and it becomes irresistible."

Logan sighed. "Okay. I don't have an alternate plan and yours sounds workable. Both the mother and daughter have approached you, asking if you can do this. Del has the equipment and you have the know-how." He looked at Uncle Del. "Maybe we could get a little help out there for him?"

Uncle Del nodded. "I have some idle people. I'm paying them wages anyway. I even have a vehicle we can fix up and donate to the cause so that girl of yours can get away on something besides a mule."

Barrett liked the idea of the car for her, but she would probably be safer in the forest on a mule. They could stop her car on the road. That made him think of something else. Did she know how to drive and did she have a driver's license? They took so many things for granted. This girl lived in a house with no electricity or plumbing and rode a mule for transportation. Why should he assume she could drive?
