"Who's that?" Zhang Wanguo shouted as he rushed out the door.
No one answered.
"Go take a look." It was inconvenient for Zhang Wanguo to hold the door because he was holding a syringe in his hands. So, he told one of the guys to do it.
The guy swayed over to the the door and asked once again, "Who is it?" He pulled the door open as he yelled.
Zhang Wanguo had only opened up a small gap, as he'd done earlier. This man, however, was not as cautious as Zhang Wanguo. He brazenly opened the door wide open.
No one was at the door.
He stuck his head outside, and peered left and right. There was no one around either.
"They probably knocked on the wrong door." He thought nothing of it and closed it shut.
"Knocked on the wrong door?" Zhang Wanguo inquired doubtfully.
"This isn't some regular house, how could anyone knock on the wrong door? Even if he did knock on the wrong one, he wouldn't have left without saying a word, right?"
"Forget it, let's finish. It was probably someone who had a little too much to drink." The other two wanted to get done with their work quickly so they could return home sooner.
Zhang Wanguo was still hesitant. Then, more knocking sounds came from the door.
"D*mn! Who is it? Who the hell is playing jokes in the middle of the night?" The man from before raised his voice and shouted, "Are you messing with me?"
There was still no response from outside the door.
Zhang Wan Guo started to get wary and sensed that something was going on. Just as he was about to warn the others not to open the door, the man had already made his way to the door and opened it.
A gust of cold wind streamed into the shed.
Along with the cold wind, two pebbles flew inside from the darkness outside. One of them hit the light switch, causing the entire room to be engulfed in darkness. The other pebble precisely struck Zhang Wanguo on his right wrist, the one he was holding the syringe with.
Everything in front of Zhang Wanguo turned to darkness. He was holding the poodle down with his left hand. His right hand felt like it was pushed by someone, plunging the syringe into his left arm.
"Ah!" he yelled loudly.
It wasn't just because a syringe was penetrating his arm—this little pain wasn't enough to cause such a reaction from him. Rather, it was what was inside of the syringe, a solution that shouldn't be injected into just anyone! Even genuine lipolytic solutions was banned in many countries, due to their unknown side effects. God knows what would happen to him once his imitation lipolytic solution, the one he created, took effect.
Although the syringe was immediately pulled out as soon as it was plunged into his muscle, he could still sense that part of the solution had been injected into his body. Though, he could just be paranoid.
He recalled a piece of information that had circulated online, stating that the cholesterol dissolved by the lipolytic solution would spread across the whole body and through the bloodstream. It could even accumulate in the heart or vital arteries. The thought of it caused him to shudder and his face turned ash white.
In a panic, his body became limp. His left hand could no longer hold the poodle down, and it leapt off the table and merrily ran out of the shed.
"Turn the lights on! Turn the lights on!" he yelled.
He was desperate to see if the amount of liquid in the syringe was the same as before.
The room lit up once again. The other two men looked at him, confused. They were wondering what scared him so much.
Using the light, Zhang Wanguo stared at the level marker on the syringe and was sure that the content in it was definitely less than before. However, he wasn't sure if the solution was injected into his body or absorbed by the white cloth on the table from it spilling.
"What happened? Who turned the lights off? Who pushed my arm?" He glared furiously at the other two men.
He previously guessed that the two men were sent to spy on him by their boss, as well as to steal information on the correct mixture for the lipolytic solution. After this incident, his suspicions only grew.
"It wasn't me."
"It wasn't me either." The two stoutly denied.
Zhang Wanguo figured that it couldn't have been them, as both events happened simultaneously, nearly at the same time. If it wasn't them, then who? Could there have been a ghost?
Zhang Wanguo had never been the type to believe in the paranormal. His utmost concern was whether the imitation solution would do any harm to his body.
"Where's the dog? Where did it run off to?" He suddenly realized that the poodle puppy had gone missing.
In some ways, the poodle's value was higher than the lipolytic solution. It had great genes and the potential to be turned into a Teacup Poodle. Such naturally born small stature was a rare find, even in large-scale dog breeding facilities
"It probably ran out as soon as the room went dark, I guess?" The other two men squatted around and searched the room, but to no avail.
Zhang Wanguo was still worried about the side effects caused by the imitation lipolytic solution. However, worrying wasn't going to help him then. Instead, he gritted his teeth and ordered, "Find that poodle. It shouldn't have gone far."
After the duo split up to go searching for the poodle, he carefully placed the loaded syringes into a box. He had to finish injecting the solution after the poodle was brought back. He couldn't suffer a jab for nothing, could he?
He took off his white coat and turned the lights off. He closed the door slightly and ran out to help with the search after he was done packing. He assumed that the dog couldn't have run that far off and would soon be found. He didn't think of locking the door.
The door was pushed open after the three of them had left. A short, stout shadow was cast in the lab, against the dim lights from the stars.
A pair of yellowish-bronze eyes glowed in the dark.
Darkness like this was no big deal to a cat. Old Time Tea quickly found the box Zhang Wanguo had hidden the syringes in. It was about to knock the box onto the floor and smash the syringes, but then it remembered the men's three greedy faces. It changed its mind, grabbing the syringes with its mouth. It leapt onto the windowsill, using its paws to push it open. The, it used its momentum to launch itself yet again, grabbing the door firmly with both its front paws.
It opened its mouth carefully and placed the syringe at the top of the door. It made the needle tip point downwards by using the gap between the door and frame to secure the syringe in place.
This syringe was made out of plastic and was meant for single time use. Although the syringe was completely filled with solution, it only had a mild concentration. It was relatively harmless to the human body. But at the very least, the solution in the syringe was enough to cause some unlucky soul even more terror.
Old Time Tea leapt back to the window after setting up the small trap. He squeezed through the window and closed it from the outside.
It launched itself upwards, both paws grabbing onto the wall, and easily hoisted itself onto the roof.
"Done with everything?"
Famous was waiting at the rooftop, its eyes filled with admiration. No doubt this was the Old Time Tea from its imaginary world, even though age never went easy on men or cats. However, Old Time Tea managed to retain its charm over the years.
"I'm done." Old Time Tea answered.
It noticed a little figure squirming on Famous's back. It was the poodle that had escaped earlier. Famous had carried it on its back while jumping onto the rooftop. There was no way that the men would have guessed that the poodle puppy they were trying so hard to find was actually on the roof.
"Are we going to go now?" Famous tried to ask. Since they'd already recorded sufficient evidence, the switch on the camera attached to his neck was already turned off. It was best not to record anything that happened next, or it could cause unnecessary alarm and trouble.
Old Time Tea stood on the roof, looking around disparagingly at this sinful facility.
Its eyes flickered and it courageously announced, "From what I see, since we've already started, we might as well continue to the end!"
