"So this is what you were doing while your own child was on the brink of death?" Her pupils dilated and she cocked one side of her nostrils as she clenched the steering wheel for dear life. Unconsciously Marla's right foot lifted off of the brake and mashed down hard on the gas pedal. Screeeched; the tires went as the car suddenly lurched forward into the street at high speed.

"Grrrrrrrr…. BASTARD!!" She screamed as the wheels were spinning rapidly down the street as they attempted to catch up to the sudden burst of gas given to the engine propelling the car forward into traffic just as Jacob had entered the crosswalk heading towards a parking lot. At the sound of the commotion of a speeding car, Jacob looked up and was immobilized. The shock of being caught in the middle of the crosswalk with a speeding car barreling down upon him mad him temporarily freeze; standing in harm's way.

"Oh my God…" came out in a quiet whisper under his breath. His heartbeat stilled in his chest and he became one with his environment. Suddenly the sound of his stepson' laughter vibrated crystal clearly into his ears as the boy sat oblivious to the danger that they were in. Jacob was standing outside of himself as the car grew nearer and nearer.

His eyes involuntarily closed as a small prayer of, "Oh God, help me God," slipped out between his lips. The world in which he and Marla existed in disappeared from them; leaving only the two of them- him stranded with his stepson perched upon his shoulders and her in her rapidly approaching car with his biological son sitting beside her. There was nowhere to run- no escape.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr- abruptly the squeal of brakes being pumped and rubber being peeled penetrated the airways causing everyone who could hear and see the mayhem to stop and give sight to what was going on.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah…" Marla screamed which scared Jayden causing him to cry at the fear of what was happening. The car came to an unceremonious halt; a mere half block away from Jacob and the child. Marla's head dropped with tears in her eyes as she rested it on the steering wheel. She couldn't believe that she had almost become a murderer. With the impending danger over, Jacob opened his eyes and saw that the car had stopped and whoever was driving it head bowed. He blinked regaining his composure and quickly got out of the street heading on his way. The sound of honking horns startled her back into her senses; reminding her that she was still stopped in the middle of an intersection. By the time Marla had regained her own composure and looked up again, Jacob and the child were nowhere to be seen.
