Even though she had averted her eyes, she could feel his gaze searing into her. Cheng Qingchong’s heart started to race for some reason. This feeling unhinged her. Her lips opened, and she found a random excuse to diffuse the situation. “Erm, the doctor said that your leg wound is still recovering, so even though you can get out of bed, it’s better if you don’t stay on your feet for too long… so let me help you get back into bed.”
Qin Yinan responded with silence. The atmosphere in the room became palpably awkward. This was the first time in her life that Cheng Qingchong had found herself in such an environment. Her fingers were shaking nervously. Just as Cheng Qingchong was about to turn and run away, Qin Yinan finally said, “Okay.”
Cheng Qingchong sighed in relief. She quickly reached out to hold Qin Yinan’s arm to guide him back to the bed. She helped him get into the bed.
She was still recovering from the palpitation of her heart from Qin Yinan’s focused gaze earlier. When she was helping him get into bed, she accidentally brushed up against his hand. She quickly pulled back like she was shocked by electricity, but the man reacted faster than her, grabbing her hand before she could retreat. “Why are your hands so cold?”
Qin Yinan then realized Cheng Qingchong was only wearing a thin wool sweater. She went out to send Song Song off wearing just that? No wonder…
Without thinking about it, Qin Yinan pulled the slightly startled Cheng Qingchong’s other hand in between his palms and placed them underneath the cover.
“It’s winter already; even a child knows to put on a winter coat before leaving the building. Why didn’t you put one on?”
Cheng Qingchong lowered her head even more. As she tried to pull her hands away, Qin Yinan grabbed them even tighter. “Where are you going? You have to get warmed up first!”
Cheng Qingchong was unable to struggle and started to blush. She didn’t dare raise her eyes to look at Qin Yinan. Something seemed to brushed up against her heart, causing it to quiver with weakness.
This was the first time in her life a man had grabbed her hand thusly and shown so much concern toward her.
There was a sedative in Qin Yinan’s medicine, so he fell asleep soon after.
Cheng Qingchong raised her head carefully to look at Qin Yinan’s sleeping face. Over the past eight months, she had faced this man daily, but for some reason, today, when she laid her eyes on his face again, her heart started to race. Was it because he was holding her hands?
Cheng Qingchong extricated her hands silently from Qin Yinan’s palms. Her palms were covered with sweat. She rubbed them on her clothes, and her heart palpitated even harder.
When Qin Yinan woke up next, it was already noon. Cheng Qingchong was leaning against his bed, playing on her phone.
He looked at her for a while but didn’t disturb her. He leaned in silently towards her phone and realized with a shock that she was writing an online diary.
He had just caught glimpse of her online username when she realized his presence. Like seeing a ghost, she sucked in a deep breath before hiding the phone before her. She stammered, “You, you’re awake? I… I’ll find you something to eat.”
Then she rushed out of the room.
