Wait… She said the child in my stomach, so it’s not the child in Tang Nuan’s stomach but her own… She’s pregnant… This should have been something worth celebrating, but it caused Su Zhinian’s smile to tense.
All those weird actions and anomalous incidents slowly added up in Su Zhinian’s mind.
No wonder last week at home, she kept on vomiting. At the time, I thought she had a stomach bug.
No wonder she didn’t go to work today and chose such a casual outfit.
No wonder she purposely ordered those lightly-flavored dishes when she made her order and even asked for a glass of warm water when I suggested wine.
So, she is pregnant…
Su Zhinian’s fingertips that held Song Qingchun started to tremble. He lowered his head unconsciously, the question hanging on her lips. However, it was then that he realized if he asked her about her pregnancy, how was he going to explain the source of his knowledge? Expose himself regarding his superpower?
Su Zhinian was brought back to his childhood and those faces of disgust and fear that stared guardedly at him when he told his supposed friends and family about his superpower. His lips moved but eventually clamped shut. He knew he shouldn’t have hidden such a big secret from her, but he was afraid, afraid that she would react similarly to those people—hide and run away from him with distaste…
He really couldn’t tell how Song Qingchun would react to knowing that her deepest and darkest secrets would never be hidden away from him. His guess was mortal fear…
…
The atmosphere now is just perfect. If I drop the bomb about the pregnancy, it’ll ruin everything, won’t it?
Since I’ve not prepared myself yet, why not wait until later?
Song Qingchun thought about it before raising her head to look at Su Zhinian. “Shall we eat?”
Su Zhinian was looking out the window as if he had something important on his mind. He didn’t seem to have heard her.
“Zhinian? Su Zhinian?” Song Qingchun called him twice, but the man still ignored her. Finally, she had to pinch the man on his waist before he jumped and lowered his head to respond, “Hmm?”
“A penny for your thoughts?”
“It’s nothing.” Su Zhinian shook his head before asking, “Anything wrong?”
“Let’s eat, I’m starving.”
Su Zhinian nodded. “Okay.”
Throughout the dinner, Su Zhinian acted his normal self. One would have a hard time telling he was any different from usual. On the other hand, Song Qingchun had a bit much to eat. When Su Zhinian added another bowl of rice for her, he stared at her and asked, “Didn’t you say you want to go on a diet? Why are you having so much?”
Su Zhinian noticed the moment Song Qingchun’s expression froze. However, she recovered quickly by puffing up her lips and argued, “One needs enough energy to go on a diet!”
Su Zhinian stared at Song Qingchun and nodded; he didn’t expose her lies.
After dinner, when the waitress came in with the bill, Song Qingchun gave an excuse to run out of the room to use the bathroom. Su Zhinian was still in the room, but Song Qingchun still grabbed her bag with her when she went out.
Su Zhinian glanced at the bag in Song Qingchun’s hand before accepting the bill from the waitress. It might have looked like he was reading the details on the bill, but actually, his ears were intently following the sound of Song Qingchun’s movement.
