Song Qingchun tried her best to ignore the phone call. She blow-dried her hair, applied the moisturizer, and was about to settle down for the night when she could not help herself and glanced at the phone out of the corner of her eye.
The most recent call just ended, and the screen showed that there were 26 unanswered calls, all from that same number.
The past month had been so peaceful; why would things related to him suddenly appear in her life with such startling consistency?
To be frank, she really did not want to have anything to do with him, or rather, she was afraid to have anything to do with him. Song Qingchun stared at the phone for a while before averting her gaze. She then got up to turn off the lights, lay back in bed, and closed her eyes.
Song Qingchun was feeling exhausted from her period pains, so she was quite drowsy when the clock struck nine. However, due to the incessant phone calls from that number, the moment she closed her eyes, the sound of her phone’s ringtone that crowded her mind.
Song Qingchun rolled in bed with frustration to grab her phone and switch it off. She knew she was merely running away from the problem, but that was all she could do at that moment.
However, before the phone died down, Song Qingchong saw the message that number sent her. “Miss Song, I’m standing before your house. I’ll continue to wait until you answer the call or come out to see me.”
Song Qingchun tossed her phone away and hid underneath the covers. She snuggled under it for less than half a minute before she kicked the cover off and getting out of bed. She walked to the window to slide it open. The icy wind surged into the room, causing Song Qingchun to shiver. She looked downwards at the street light before her house, and there was indeed a woman standing under it.
She was only wearing a light office outfit in such a weather. She kept stomping her feet and cupped her hands to her mouth, blowing warm air into them.
Song Qingchun’s grip tightened. She turned back into her room, changed, and grabbed her phone and wallet before going downstairs.
Song Qingchun only reached the door when Cheng Qingchong at the roadside saw her. A smile bloomed on her face as she rushed toward her. “Miss Song, you’ve finally come out to see me.”
Song Qingchun’s lips tightened. She did not open the gate, and over the distance of the patio, her voice had a chilly undertone to it. “Miss Cheng, what do you need from me so late in the night?”
“I…” Cheng Qingchong looked left and right. She had many things on her mind, but they were in a mess. She did not know where to begin, plus they could not converse by yelling, could they?
Cheng Qingchong thought about it and said, “Miss Song, how about we find a nearby coffee house and talk it out over there?”
Song Qingchun lowered her gaze. After a moment’s silence, she said, “We can talk about it here.”
Cheng Qingchong realized that it did not seem like Song Qingchun intended to move. Cheng Qingchong bit on her lower lip and finally compromised. “Okay.”
Song Qingchun frowned slightly, noticing that Cheng Qingchong’s fingertips had turned red. Before the other woman continued, she opened the gate and walked out. “There’s a Starbucks just around the corner, is that okay?”
Cheng Qingchong was startled before realizing that Song Qingchong had agreed to her earlier suggestion. She smiled gratefully and said, “Yes.”
