Ty continued to explain, hoping she would believe his concocted tale. "Then I picked the wrapper up, planning to put it in the trash, but put it in my pocket instead. I don't know, man…I was too tight off that Grey Goose to even think straight."

Seeing that his story was going over remarkably well with Lela, he continued with one eyebrow raised. "Do you really think I would be that sloppy to leave the wrapper right here in the floor, baby? Do you really think that little of me?"

Just like that, the game was reversed. Lela was on the defensive about a condom wrapper that fell out of his pocket. Teresa was her hoochie mama neighbor and Sydney would bone anything with a snatch and two legs, so his story was convincing enough. She remembered feeling like a fool for questioning Tyrese. Now, her better judgment told her that he cheated on her. An old saying came to mind: If it acts like a…looks like a…it might be a… But, Lela refused to be played this time.

On the ride home from The Fat Cherry, she did a little scheming of her own. She knew just how to pay Tyrese back if he was stupid enough to be at her house when she got there. Just like she thought, he used her spare key under the flowerpot to gain entrance.

When Lela stepped into her foyer, Ty pulled her into a tight hug.

"Baby, I'm sorry. I know you're mad right now, and you have a right to be. I'll do whatever it takes, for however long it takes, to make this up to you. I don't care about that girl. You mean everything to me. I really meant it when I said I love you, and I want you to be my wife.

You mean the world to me. It will never happen again. Never."

"You got that right." She knew one thing for sure and two things for certain. One, this would never happen again. Two, he was surely a sorry-ass excuse for a man.

With her plan in mind, she kept quiet and let him do all the talking.

He didn't waste time turning on his charm like a light switch. She fell for his wooing…or so he thought…and allowed Ty to take her into the bedroom and give his best attempt at making up.

She seriously considered forgiving and forgetting, but the image of Tyrese, the white girl, and their romantic encounter kept playing out in her head-even as she took pleasure in what he was doing to her body. Lying on her back, looking into the depth of his eyes as he plunged deeper and deeper inside her, she ran the pains and pleasures of the moment down in her head.
