The limo pulled up in front of the house in which the downstairs lights were blazing. Darlene, looking through the front windows, saw the car and hurriedly opened the front door. Probably gearing up to give me another earful, Ethan speculated. Deservedly so.

Ethan lifted his precious burden clear of the car and strode into the house.

'Good lord look how pale she is. Dr Matthews just got here and is waiting for you upstairs. I've turned down the bed in her room and turned on the heater.' Darlene turned back to the kitchen and not for the first time Ethan found himself obeying one of her directives. This time at least, he mused, he whole heartedly concurred.
