'I don't know,' Tom shrugged.

'But you were so confident when I went to talk to the resistance people. I told Bryn about Big Brain and how you were able to access it because you were a member of a special task force. I said you think it's rat shit.'

'Unfortunately, there are different sorts of rat shit.' Tom grimaced. 'Big Brain is of the bipolar sort. It's made up of individual minds with individual egos. You would expect a few conflicts.'

'You mean it's mad?'

'Mad. But not totally dysfunctional. Some parts of Big Brain are rational. Others are crazy. Some refuse to communicate with others. We appear to be dealing with a super-intelligent unpredictable maniac.'

'How is this going to affect tonight's operation?'

'Hopefully, not at all.'

'And, if it does?'

'Then it's bad news for Plaid Koerno. The trolls will cut them down the moment they set foot in the prison camp. They won't stand a chance.'

A light flashed on Crispin's tablet.

'Bryn is ready for the pilot operation.'

'All systems up and ready to go,' Peter replied.

Crispin turned to Tom.

'I hope we won't disappoint them ...'
