He spoke to me. "I come to you each night of my own will, of mortal flesh, during the three phases of the moon. But, when the moon wanes from the sky, I go to her, the 'Succubus' that bears the seal as I, of eternal damnation. The words spoken from the Ars Goetia evoked my true demon form."

He led me by the hand as we climbed a spiral stairway, my body becoming weightless. Mist surrounded us, and when we reached the top, we could go no further.

His voice was haunting… hypnotic, like in my dreams. "This is hallowed ground, the gate to heaven. Here we cannot pass, nor can any mortal."

I saw what looked like angels, some illuminated with golden light, others iridescent. Those with six wings covered their heavenly bodies, others, child-like, had four wings. Some sat upon what looked like thrones of heaven, in groupings, like a choir.

"I remember the vision… you showed it to me. Your fall from grace. I know why I summoned you," I told him. "It was Lilith, your woman. Her spirit is alive in me. I bear her resemblance!"

"All that you have seen of me, it was because I loved a mortal girl. I remain an angel of the fallen. I was in exile until you evoked me. The Celestial orders did not foresee a mortal girl could bend the fate of a condemned demon. Now, in my underworld, I am Duke of infernal hierarchy. I govern thirty six legions of spirits. I still hold all the powers expected of my rank and title, therefore, all thirty six legions pay allegiance only to me. They awaited my evocation just like I awaited yours. Unlike the other seventy one Goetic demons, my soul was spared. I continue to find a way to release them from their curse."

"At first, I wasn't sure what was happening. But when I saw you in your true demon form, I knew there was more to it. It was to sacrifice my spirit to her, and my blood for you," I cried.

"I do not think it a fair exchange, a life of a mortal for a demon's immortality," Dantalion confided.

"But still you came to me," I said sadly.

"That is my nature. That is what an Incubus is, Laurel," he reminded me.

"So you're telling me, it didn't matter? The lust, the obsession, none of it?" I questioned him.

"I never thought… I mean, I never wanted…" Dantalion's voice faded as he turned from me.
