The kids retreated to their cabins, but Megan stayed to talk with her friend. "I can see you running around barefoot, chasing animals," she said to him.

"We did not have toys and televisions and computers in my youth. The outdoors was our fun and livelihood." Gray Cloud took Megan's hands. "You have a good heart, child, but give my grandson time. When he's ready, he'll let you know."

Will this man never stop amazing me? How does he know my thoughts and my questions?Megan raised her eyebrow in a questioning slant. "What do you mean? Are you saying Colby will approach me when he's ready to talk with you?"

"You'll understand soon. Good night." His bowed legs took him home while his hums sang with the owls. "Crazy. With that man it's always later." She kicked the earth with her boot. "Why can't I have answers now?"

Venturing to the cabin, she said, "Some processes can not be rushed, or else you ruin the outcome. What if Tracy took the biscuits out five minutes early, because the troops were hollering for food? No one would eat the unbaked biscuits. Why is Colby waiting to speak with his grandparents? I believe they have many tomorrows, but what if they don't? Or what if a freak accident takes Colby, like it did my parents? Why can't Colby see this and act upon it, despite his fears and frustrations? How do I make him see he has to stop procrastinating?"

Lying in bed, her heart beat faster like she sprinted to the lake and back. "When I believed someone watched me, this same feeling overtook me. Colby entered the picture and the feeling disappeared, until tonight. Why would Colby stay here? He and Brett are not on speaking terms." Megan shot up. "If Brett finds him here…. What a mess. I should take a look."

As if pushed, Megan fell backwards. A voice said, "Go to sleep," but her eyes remained opened in pondering the strange happenings at the Circle M.
