"You really don't think that do you?" Bonisile asked starting to get worried. When she had showed up and saw Mandisa and Sindi, she had relaxed certain that everything was under control. And now Sindi was talking crazy.

"And what do you mean you attacked Khanyi? Was it physical and did you say she locked you up?" Sindi looked down shyly. She nodded.

"Why did she lock you in?"

"So I wouldn't leave while she went to find Mandy." Sindi answered in a shameful voice. Bonisile stared at her shocked. She didn't believe it. Not her two adorable shy sisters. It was unthinkable. She was the drama queen of the family and Mandisa was the shrewd. Bonisile had always thought if any of them were likely to fight, it would be her and Mandisa. Yeah she could see herself locking Mandisa in the house and Mandisa attacking her. But try as she might she couldn't see Khanyi or Sindi doing what Sindi had just told her. She took out another cigarette and lit it.

"And why on earth were you trying to run away? Where would you go?"

Sindi answered with a shrug.

"I can't lose Joy, Bonnie, I just can't." the tears came again.

"And what makes you think you will lose him? Mandisa is the best lawyer to have on your side."

"Because we are cursed." Sindi answered in a shallow voice. "Something always goes wrong in our lives."

Bonisile stared at her stunned.

"All our lives we have experience one heartache after another.' Sindi said sobbing.

"And then we met each other and life has never been perfect." Bonisile argued.

"'Exactly." Sindi said. "It has been perfect until Tebogo came into our lives and now we are going to lose it all. I know we are. That is what happens in our lives. Just when we think we have been through it all, life teaches us differently."

Bonisile didn't know what to say. Sindi had a point. They had suffered all their lives. That's what they knew best, pain and heartaches. Happiness was just something they read about in novels. And what if this custody battle was life' reminder of their place in life as the sufferers? Bonisile threw away the cigarette having lost the taste for it. She took a deep breath and stared outside the window. She hadn't thought of it in that way. She had believed that Mandisa was going to win the case, just as long as she stayed focused and sorted out what ever has been bothering her lately.
