"Is something wrong?" I asked as I tasted my bourbon on the rebound.

"No, yes; I have to talk to you!"

"Is it concerning Howie?"

"Please. Let me tell you my way." I could hear she was crying.

"Okay, Julie. Calm down. Tell me what's troubling you."

"Not on the phone. Please; in person."

I wasn't sure how to respond. "Okay, as soon as Howie gets back . . ."

"No. Tonight. Now; please?"

"Julie, it's after eleven. I can't come down to Boston . . ."

"No! I'm here in Keene . . . at Howie's house. He left me his car when he flew out to him mom's place. Please? This is really important."

I felt I owed it to Howie to at least hear her out. "I'll get Betsy come over," I said.

"Is she listening to this?" Julie asked. I sensed her nervousness; or panic.

"No. She's sleeping but I'm sure she'd be willing to hear what's troubling you."

"No! Please don't tell her! Just come alone!" She hung up before I could protest.

Ontario, Canada. I am thankfully ensconced in my perfect house on wheels, mended in body but seething in mind. I'm in another country, if only for a short while to see if the pickings here are to my liking. I surely deserve the comfort of a little friend to sooth my troubled mind.

I've barely had a peaceful hour since my injury I'm so overwhelmed with the vengeance against those who did me harm, and those who wish to do so. But I must control any irrational emotions and plan carefully, to the zenith of my high level of intelligence.

Yes, I'm willing to admit, my last venture was a foolish mistake. I was imprudent to place myself at such risk. I realize now my venture was doomed to failure from the start as my target was far better protected than I sensed. I chastise myself for taking an undue risk when other means are available. Much as I crave revenge, I'll turn away and not waste my time assaulting his castle again. I shall research this old man's recent holdings as tedious as the project will be. If I am unsuccessful there are others who may hold the answers I demand and I now have plans to get them as well.

But first, I feel the urge to partake of Canadian hospitality.
