That night they roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over a small fire. Coyotes yapped and insects sang. In some ways, it didn't sound much different from home. There were no whippoorwills or tree frogs, though.

When they retired to the camper, Alex made sure the door was locked. Finally they had a room of their own, though the partition between them and the children was little more than an insulated plastic curtain. The children were all asleep and they were alone at last. They both felt comfortable in their private room. This was how they should have spent all their vacation time. It was going to be a relaxing vacation from here on out. Alex would have to enjoy it.
