As Dominic read the ransom note a look of anger and frustration flooded his face. He knew he had to do something. He showed the note to the harbor master, and they both came to same conclusion, Alannah was dead no matter whether they paid the ransom or not. Dominic had no choice, he had to try to save her. He decided to let his mother handle the ransom, while he would continue to look for Alannah.

The group of four men all got on their horses and took off towards Santiago's house, once there Dominic looked at Pierre and in a take charge sort of way told Pierre what had transpired, "Pierre I need you to raise the alarm over the island, as for now I will need Santiago to come with us..'

"Santiago goes nowhere without me," Anya said, "Alannah is my friend and I am a much better shot than Santiago any day! No one will shoot at my husband unless it is me!"

Santiago looked at Dominic, "It is useless to argue with her," Santiago mused, unable to conceal the love and pride that shone clearly in his eyes.

Dominic hesitated for just a second, and then said, "Come then, both of get your horses. We ride to Port Lira now, and there will be hell to pay when I catch up with the men who took my wife. They had better hope that she is still alive and unharmed."

The six of them took off at record speeds and by the time they reached Port Lira their horses were foaming at the mouth. When they arrived, the scene before them resembled a hornets nest that had been disturbed. There were uniformed members of the port authority everywhere, trying their hardest to keep things under control, as Dominic's presence in town began to register. Dominic got off his mount as the Portmaster came up to him, they talked in hushed voices. Dominic learned that someone had tried to gain entry to the ships just the day before, he was told that the man was pushing a wheelbarrow full of netting and said he was going to his fishing boat. Dominic thanked him, and headed back into town, he spotted a secong gathering of people near the entrance to an alleyway. Dominic and his group headed towards that gathering to find out what was going on there. Dominic dismounted, and the others followed him. They had to push their way through the crowd, when they came to the front of the alleyway Dominic saw the wheelbarrow and netting that the Portmaster had described. He went to look at the scene and along with the netting and wheelbarrow there were two dead men lying on the ground.
