“You think I‘ll be waiting? You‘ve disrespected me enough Edward, maybe I should have seen it coming. If I don‘t hear from you by midday tomorrow, I‘ll be moving back to my aunt‘s house.”

“Maybe you should. The takeover will be going public this week. I don‘t know if I‘ll be back.” His heart slammed in his chest but he kept his voice short. He would be fully occupied with finding a way forward for Bestman and didn‘t want to be distracted by any protracted quarrels with Gladys.

“Is that all you have to say?” She asked with finality.

“Yes, I‘m done talking for now, I really need to rest.” He sidestepped her and left the room.

Gladys listened to him marching down the stairs and then to the door banging closed. She lay down drained of both tears and anger but full of fear. What was going to happen to them?
