She was nearing the highway when headlights came up behind her. One of the Hudson boys? Her heart pounded against her ribs. She wouldn't let them stop her. She steered the car to the center of the road, blocking the vehicle from coming up beside her. That was when the flashing blue lights came on.

She let out a long breath of relief and moved to the side of the road before stopping. She wouldn't have to drive to Pelsor after all.

The police car stopped behind her and the officer walked up beside her car. It was Officer Lucas - the nice one. It took her a few minutes to figure out how to get the window down, but as soon as she could, she started telling him the problem.

"I'm so glad to see you. I'm trying to get help…"

"Let's see your driver's license and proof of insurance first," he interrupted.

"I don't have a driver's license. This is an emergency. My brother and the owner of this car have been captured and they need help."

He gave her a wry smile. "I've had people tell me some wild stories to get out of a ticket, but this one has to be the wildest. Step out of the car."

"Please, they need help. I'll lead you there."

"You're not driving any further without a license. The only place you're going is to the station; now get out of the car."

She had to get help some way. Maybe the best way was to lead him back to Barrett. She rolled up her window as she started the car.

The officer stepped back, surprised. "Hey!"

She spun the tires leaving the scene. She was going to be in big trouble, but she saw no other way. Hopefully he wouldn't start shooting at her.

After a few minutes the police car was in her rear view mirror again, siren blasting. She stayed in the center of the road and kept driving. Ahead, there was a Y. One way circled around to the road where she lived and the other lead to Pelsor. She would lead him back to the trailer.

The police car drifted to one side of the road and then the other, trying to get around her, but she kept blocking him. She had almost reached the Y when she saw headlights ahead of her. She would have to move over, but she was going to wait until the last moment.

Suddenly blue lights flashed on top of the oncoming vehicle. It turned in the road, blocking her.
