The Spider's Fly
Page 43Finally they made it! All of the parents were waiting patiently outside as the van pulled into the park. Debbie and the van driver had to gather all of their belongings and wake all of the kids except Laura, as they were all still sleeping. Laura exited the van and began telling her mother of the day’s events while the others were still waking up and gathering their things. Laura was so excited about all of the beauty that she had seen on their hike that she completely forgot to tell her mother about what happened to her brother Mike. Linda was happy to hear that everything went so well and assured Laura that she would make sure to get the pictures developed as soon as their father Mike Sr. gets paid. Lindsey and Mike finally exited the van and they all finally walked home since the park was just across the street from their house. As soon as they got in the house, Lindsey began telling their mother about what had happened to Mike and how scared and worried she was for her brother. Mike also told her what happened and assured them that he was okay and couldn’t wait to go on another trip just like that one only longer. Since It was getting quite late and everyone was tired, Linda told the kids to go to bed and that they could tell her and their father everything about their trip in the morning after they are well rested. They all went to bed and everyone fell fast asleep. Everyone seemed to sleep well through the night with the exception of Lindsey. She couldn’t sleep because she kept worrying about her brother Mike Jr. and what could have happened to him if it weren’t for the tree that stopped him. She tossed and turned all night and kept waking up from nightmares of bad things happening to him. By the time she finally fell asleep without waking, the night sky was turning into day. By the time Lindsey woke up, morning was almost over and everyone except her had already had breakfast and was watching television. Fortunately her mother had saved her a plate and reheated it for her to eat. After breakfast, Mike Sr. had already left for work. For the rest of the day, the entire family just sat around the house watching television and eating snacks.
