Kill Fest
Page 112Closing her eyes, she wished for a normal life, one where she didn't have to hunt and murder for hire people she didn't even know. She had been taught how to take human lives since age 18 when she first joined the army and trained as a first class sniper. An accomplishment rarely performed by woman soldiers yet her skill in marksmanship and her willingness to murder on command moved the young lady into a class all her own.
The thought of falling in love and having babies was as foreign to Aurora as the countries she was deployed in. Just as a deep peaceful sigh came forth from her lips, the familiar ringtone of Kimba rang on her cell. Gripping the bed sheet to keep her covered, the young woman reached for her jeans upon the floor at bedside. They were right where she left them once her ankles were free from their denim embrace.
Taking hold of the leg of the jeans she pulled the pants to her and dug into the back right pocket. "Hello!" she said answering the device as the sweet voice of Kimba greeted her on the other end
"Aurora…..hey baby, I miss you."
"Oh baby I miss you too!" Aurora replied delighted to hear a friendly voice.
"I didn't wake you, did I? I know it's a little early but I just couldn't wait to hear your voice," Kimba said with a hint in sadness in her tone. "I tried calling your yesterday but you must have missed my call," she went on to say.
"I know…..I'm so sorry hun, I was in the middle of something," Aurora said painfully, as her girlfriends words were like gentle music to her ears. The words spoken didn't even matter to Aurora. just to hear someone speaking who was not part of the insane events of the last few days was comforting enough. She could feel her heart slow to a normal beat and the feeling of tranquility embraced her.
Closing her eyes, she heard every defined word with complete clarity as she envisioned herself in bed beside Kimba. She could almost feel her within her touch as the tough urban warrior silently started to cry. Although she was weeping, it was unknown to Kimba, who went on about the last few days at work much like she would on any other given day. Something that Aurora would most often take in stride and deal with in a tone deaf sort of way. Covering her mouth to hide her mournful whimpers, Aurora listened to everything Kimba had to say even the most mundane.
The magical moment was slaughtered when a knock fell upon the door bringing Aurora back to reality. Wiping her eyes, she glanced at the door. "I heard a knock on your end." Kimba said.
