"He's cute," Betty said as Dean snapped off the flashlight.

"Yeah," answered Dean. "Everyone thinks so."

It was a very long night, a night of whispering secrets to strangers and sharing life stories and holding and thinking aloud and even some kissing and touching stuff-lots of stuff. He told her about Cynthia and she talked about someone named Jack who was a med student whose family thought she was a jerk and they both decided life was too damned complicated and lots of the times it sucked, but not at times like this. It was a long night, but a nice night; certainly not a night with an adequate allotment of sleep-not with the naked body of beautiful Betty from Boise beside him and a world gone topsy-turvy, and wondering lord knows what lay ahead in the towering mountains that surrounded them.
