“I am not sure how to start this conversation with you Dr. Cole. It is quite unusual. This morning, a detective waltzed into my office, unannounced and he wanted to talk about you. He had several questions that I was not comfortable answering at all.” Dean Jacobs watched her face closely, hoping to see something that would tell him what was going on with her.
“He explained that he was from Stafford, Virginia and that he had been looking for you for a little over 11 months now. I explained that you were teaching here for the last two semesters and then he asked several more questions. He wants to meet with you at 2:00 today. I granted that request, but only in my office, and only with me present.” He watched her for signs of any emotion. He was curious as to what a detective from Stafford was doing looking for her.
Some of the questions asked were personal and he had to admit that she kept to herself, that he had no idea if she was involved with anyone on the campus but he had assured the giant of a man that she was not doing anything wrong or immoral. He knew very little about her except what was on her application and the letters of recommendations that she had brought with her.
