Kaori’s little brother Kiki was her assistant. Kiki helped her gather the plants that she needed for her herbal remedies. It seemed that she was guided by the Gods to find everything she needed. These plants seemed to just call to her and tell her their uses.

Unlike the some other women of the tribe, Kaori spent little time cooking and never really developed this talent. She was orderly however. The many plants she used were stored in a medicine hut where she usually treated patients. Known as a young medicine woman of the tribe, it was obvious that she had a wonderful relationship with the Gods. There was not a person of the tribe who had held the position of treating illnesses and injuries since the death of Kaori’s grandmother. Kaori seemed to be creating such a position by the work she was doing.

Kaori was especially fond of cats. She was one of the few who allowed her cat to sleep in her hut at night. As she lay on the floor on top of some cloths, often her cat named Ponto would lay curled in Kaori’s arms. Her parents allowed this even though this was unusual in Hayshua. Most of the cats in the village slept outside and roamed the village and surrounding areas at night.
