Unlike the rest of the women, Kaori only took a small knife and some fruit with her on her hunt. A few of the villagers noticed this and smiled as they looked upon her. Kaori also did not take a horse because she had never learned to ride. She simply walked out of the village.

Kaori walked steadily for about an hour. She then stopped to sing her prayers to the gods. She then headed for a hilly part of the area and began to climb up a hill. When she reached the top of the hill, she sat down again and started her singing prayers. She began to smile and later broke out in joyous laughter after singing a particular song she had created for the gods.

She then took the fruit out of the cloth she had with her and began to eat. It was a beautiful day and she was really enjoying herself.

While there were also some bears and other potentially dangerous animals in the area, Kaori was very comfortable in the wild.

Back at the village, many women had begun to return with their kills. As the day wore on it did appear that this would be like many past Jontoo celebrations a time of joy and wonderful unions. As the council began to size up the kill, they were pleased as there was good meat for the village to share. Sumno had brought back the largest kill and she also had Yousho in mind to select as her mate. Though is appeared she might’ve been the winner, Sumno was not allowed to make her selection until all the women had returned.
