"I'm not sure. They probably scattered after the confrontation, but who knows? They haven't ever acted rationally. Young, stupid and reckless."

Jackson remained quiet and stiff as Sarah continued, "We heard you yelling. What was that about?"

Elisabeth shifted, pressing her knees together. "Nothing important." She stood. "I'm getting another piece of pie. Anyone want a slice?"

The vampires shook their heads in unison.

When she returned and sat down, Sarah moved to Elisabeth's other side on the sofa. Although Jackson still didn't speak, Sarah reasoned with her. "Keeping secrets isn't the best way to earn confidence or compliance. We're supposed to be a family, you know? Families share everything."

Elisabeth stalled with a few bites of pie before speaking. "Thomas wants me to find a way to use you three as bait to catch the rogues."
