"Yeah, she's a piece of work," Beverly whispered. "She threatened me with the Attorney General's office if I didn't get you out here ASAP." She shrugged. "But she's right. You don't just get out of your car and start walking for no good reason."
"I know you got a statement from her."
"Yeah, but she's demanding to talk directly to you. I told her you'd want to look for Bennett first but she's insisting."
Jack exhaled. "You printed the car."
She nodded. "I won't know for sure 'til we get a set to compare to but I got prints from the door, the trunk and the steering wheel. They look like they're all gonna' come back to the same person."
"No sign anything was wiped down?"
"No. And nothing in the trunk, either."
Jack looked at the army of trees. "How far into the woods did you get?"
“Haven’t had time yet. And I didn’t want to leave the Cadillac Queen alone. With the way she's bitching about how long this is all taking, she’ll take off the first time one of us blinks.”
Jack feigned a sigh of defeat. “OK. Why don’t you call Zach and see if he’s done with that break-in at the vet’s office? Stay with the agent until he gets here and then come find me.”
