Whisper In The Wind

"Waiting for the first dance with my wife."

"Did you invite Scott?"

"Perhaps." He looked around the room and Caitlin followed his glance. Scott stayed off to the side, taking in the scenery. It would take time for the townspeople to talk with him, but eventually they would open up to him. Right now, Caitlin did not want to think about Scott, the ranch, or what may happen to tomorrow. She wanted only to concentrate on her husband.

The band struck their first chord and Garrett set the glass down and offered his hand. "May I have this dance, Mrs. Winston?" She took his hand and they floated onto the dance floor, where they became one. Soon others joined in and danced until the room darkened and the sun cast shadows over the ranch.

Garrett clinked the glass with a spoon. Everyone gathered around. "Caitlin and I want to thank you for helping us make this day become reality. It means more than we can say that you celebrated with us. Enjoy your evening, dance, eat, and drink. We love you."

Glasses clinked, Caitlin and Garrett kissed, and then Garrett whisked her away to the den. "Is today everything you imagined, Mrs. Winston?" he asked, the name rolling off his tongue. It reminded her of a song, one you played over and over, but this song she would never tire of hearing.

"I love how you say that." He pulled her to him. "Today has been incredible and more than I imagined." Her smile and the twinkle in her eyes said it all. They headed upstairs to change into jeans and sweaters and then sneaked out the back door, where Paco and Paquita were saddled.

"Watts did this for us," he said, winking.

She noticed the picnic blanket, basket, and extra blankets. Her eyes lit as she looked at her husband. "You read my mind." They rode towards the picnic area where they had almost shared their first kiss. Caitlin could not imagine a better place to start their lives together as Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Winston.
