Whisper In The Wind

"My mother wore this on her wedding day. I wore it the day I married William and Rebecca wore it when she married Jonathan. Now it's your turn," Rachel said, her voice quivering.

Caitlin hugged her. "Thank you for being my grandmother and helping me make this wonderful day more spectacular."

Jen pulled them apart. "No more crying," Jen said wiping her own tears. "I refuse to redo makeup." She looked at the clock. "Time to get you married. Ready?"

"Yes."

When they reached the ranch, Jen checked to see that Garrett was occupied so he would not see his bride. With the coast clear, the women went inside. The aroma of fresh cut roses filled the house. It did not look like Garrett's house anymore, as the furniture had been removed to make room for a dance floor. Baskets of fresh cut flowers traveled the circular stairway and the smell of spring permeated the house. All tables were draped in champagne colored linens. Garrett had spared no expense or thought in making this a perfect day for them and their friends.

She sneaked into the study and looked outside. Friends and neighbors mingled in the warm spring day with blue sky and wispy clouds. They reminded Caitlin of angel wings. "They are watching from above." A strange twinge overtook her but she refused to cry.

A few minutes passed and Harry came inside. "We're ready." Jen thanked him and found Caitlin in the den, looking out the window at the rose bush, already in bloom. "Are you ready, Ms. Chadwick?"

"Yes." She turned but did not move. "I can't believe this is happening. Dreams come true, Jen. We're living proof." Jen handed Caitlin the medium sized-bouquet filled with Shasta daisies, pink miniature lilies, blue lupine, lavender accent, and goldenrod. She breathed in its heady scent and knew today was perfect. With a squeeze of Jen's hand, Caitlin smiled and took the first step.

They went outside to a full house. All white chairs were filled with happy, smiling people. She loved her neighbors for wanting to celebrate with her and Garrett. Sterling colored roses mixed with soft lavender accents decorated the arbor and aisle. Garrett had left no detail unturned in his surprise for the outdoor ceremony.

Harry's wife played the piano as Jen strolled down the aisle in her champagne colored dress with A-line skirt and patterned embroidery on the bodice. Caitlin and her grandmother linked arms. Squeezing the woman's hand, Caitlin said, 'Thank you for today."
