“You have to respect your father’s last wish.” Ricky said loudly.

“No one asked for your opinion.” She fairly hissed at him, then turned back to her mother.

“The two of you should not spit at each other in front of me.” Betty said, her face looked as though she wanted to throw a party. “You two can talk about your lives.”

The last thing Flora wanted was to tell the scowling raven in front of her all about her uneventful life. When she stood up, she staggered a bit, “I need to rest or I can just jump in the mouth of the nearest dog outside.”

“You two are alike more than you know. I like your sense of humor.” He stood up and took her arm. He looked at her in a way that made Flora hope that she wasn’t going to bury her face on his chest. She didn’t think she had the strength to fight him off.

Still stumbling, she followed him to her room, he showed her the bed, she didn’t think about the lack of privacy. She just fell into her bed and went to sleep, there was a smile on her face because she thought that the worst day of her life was over.

She was so wrong.
