Until Sunrise

I’d better get some rest, she thought. She wondered what Miranda meant by darkness, was something going to happen to her or Ricky? Maybe it’s an accident, she whispered. She was getting paranoid and wanted to call Ricky. She reached her bedroom and reached the bed sheet she had placed in the large laundry basket.

She stretched the bottom sheet around the corner of the bed. She walked around, pulling on the sheet and then sat down on the edge of the bed. She was tempted to call Ricky. The whole house seemed to be silent except the breeze that passed through the window.

I like this, she thought. This is what I need. She heard a creak as if the door opened.

“Mom, Ricky, Angie? She called out.

There was no answer.

Probably the breeze, she thought. She got up and tossed open the top sheet. She thought she saw a movement in Ricky’s room through her bedroom door.

“Ricky?” she said.

She took a deep breath when she heard no response. You are scaring yourself because you are not used to silence. She convinced herself. She smoothed the duvet over the sheets and put the pillows in their cases. She moved slowly to the living room, her heart seized but there was no one. She turned to go back to the bedroom and there was someone moving up behind her.
