The Spider's Fly
Page 17Summer vacation was perfect. Lindsey and her family spent a lot of time at home together. They played a lot of board games such as Life and Monopoly. And also spent time at the park across the street. But summer was ending too soon, and since kindergarten was hell, Lindsey wasn’t looking forward to starting first grade at all. Time to get up. The first day of school had already arrived. Lindsey and her sister got ready for back to school, while her brother watched early morning cartoons. While Lindsey was starting the first grade, her sister Laura was beginning the Fourth grade They were both dreading starting school again. Laura seemed even less enthused about it than Lindsey, if that was even possible. The girls ate their delicious breakfast that their mother had prepared for them as usual, and hurried off to school. The school bell rang, and both girls arrived to their classes right on time. Lindsey immediately noticed that the layout of the first grade classroom, was quite different than the kindergarten classroom. There were desks, a piano, and lots of musical instruments. It was nothing like the kindergarten classroom which had none of these. Lindsey’s first grade teacher began to speak. First she went over the behavioral expectations. Then she went over the class curriculum. While her teacher was beautiful, and young, and spoke very softly, Lindsey was still afraid because of what she had just gone through with her abusive kindergarten teacher. As time past, much to Lindsey’s surprise, the first grade would be nothing like kindergarten. Her teacher Mrs. Hogue was delightful. She was kind, and caring, and lots of fun. She used music as her main teaching tool. Lindsey learned a lot in the first grade and her parents were proud. Once first grade was over, Lindsey was looking forward to summer. Lindsey was able to enjoy summer, since she no longer feared or worried about school, it made her summer much more enjoyable and seemed to last longer.
