The Senator's Vote
Page 33"Oh hey, Mel. She's right here; lemme put the phone on speaker."
"Hey sis. What's up?"
"I was just wondering if you two were going to be here soon." I glanced at my watch: 10:46.
"Yeah, we have to go to Medical and finish up some things at the office then we'll be heading there."
"Medical? What happened?"
"Mandy cut her hand, and I broke a rib," Keith said.
"Oh my god! But you're both all right?"
"We're fine. We'll just be the Bandaged Bride and Groom," I said and Keith laughed. I turned onto to Columbia.
"Ya, we just have to tie up a few loose ends and then we'll be heading here like Mandy said."
"Guess I don't need to be entertaining people till you get here then. I took out my slides just in case."
"That was sweet of you, sis. Thanks."
"No problem. Oh hey, that's not supposed to go there." She paused. "Mandy, I gotta go. Bye."
The line went dead and Keith and I laughed.
"Guess everything is under control," I said.
"Sounds like it. We just have to get there and get dressed."
"Nope, you?"
"Maybe in the wedding dress." I turned left on Connecticut Ave.
"Well, Mandy, there's no way seeing you can bring bad luck." I blushed as he rested his hand on my knee and smiled at me.
I turned right and then pulled into the CTC parking lot, and parked the SUV.
"You can debrief while I get checked out if you want," Keith said.
"Nah, I want to make sure you're okay. I won't be able to think straight until then."
"Okay." He opened the door.
He took my face in his hands and kissed me tenderly. "I'm fine, promise," he whispered. I smiled softly. "Have I told you today that I love you?"
I nodded. "A few times."
"Well that's not nearly enough. I love you."
"I love you too."
I put my arm around him and we went to Medical where James was waiting with Kim.
