The Love Of Her Life
Page 9A couple of days later Dr. Shepherd called her and asked her to come to his office. She packed her backpack. She placed her backpack in her car and went to Dr. Shepherd's off ice She was greeted outside of his office by his assistant and escorted in. He had a smile on his face when he greeted her. He informed her that Mary Rose hadn't even heard the name Kendal and there was no investigation going on in either aspect of the complaint. He asked her if she knew who would have made such a wild accusation against her.
She just shook her head then stated I'm quitting I can't go back there. I wish there was another clinic I could work at where I have an apartment as part of my pay. Dr. Shepherd smiled and asked her if she had heard about the old Saint Paul's Chapel and day care center. She had heard where they had built a new church then the old chapel burned down recently leaving the nuns quarters which was an apartment house and child care center He informed her the hospital had bought it and was offering an apartment as housing for the staff. There were two apartments that would stay occupied. The apartment manager and a retired veteran that had owned the apartment house before the church bought it.
She could move in now if she wanted to. .Kendal accepted and grabbed her things and went directly to the apartment house. The manager greeted her and told her some of the apartments were kitchenettes and others was either a vey small one bedroom or a kitchenette with an pantry or storage room. They were situated on the second floor just below the veteran's apartment. She was shown that apartment and liked it very well and agreed to that particular apartment.
The management said there was some furniture in the basement storage unit that she could have if she wanted it. She looked at the furniture and thought to herself the hide a bed sofa would be too heavy for her to pull out all the time so she picked this black vinyl sofa that the back folded down to make a bed. She also picked this little table that the ends folded down to make more room when raised it made room for to eat. There was a nice little glass top three fourths the size of a regular coffee table. She picked that table.
She was told about the tunnel in the basement the nuns used to go to the child care center. Dr. Shepherd told her about the tunnel and that is what he suggested to use since the west side of town was a very dangerous section of the town. The next morning after sleeping on the vinyl sofa her very first night there kendal walked through the tunnel to the center where workers was putting the finishing touches on the building.
