See You Soon

Angelina sat straight up in bed, her face covered in sweat and tears. She looked around trying to think where she was. Slowly, she reached over and turned on the bedside lamp. She took a few minutes looking wildly about as she tried to remember what she had been dreaming.

She covered her face, and then she began to cry in earnest. The nightmares were getting stronger, of that she was certain. The worst part was that she awoke in terror, but could remember nothing. She never could remember what it was; only that it had been horrible and that it was important. At first, the feelings of horror left quickly after she woke up, but it was staying with her longer now as if they were intensifying. The feeling of unease stayed with her well into her morning. She just couldn’t shake the feeling that it was an omen of what was to come.

For most people, a nightmare was just that. But for her, it was something more. It always had been, since she was a little girl. Those dreams were only part of what had made her so good at her last job, with the police department. If only they would go away as easily as her past job and life had. It would make her life so much simpler.
