My Youth Began With Him
Page 492Jing Zhixin laughed as he said this nonchalantly, but his intent was very simple. He just wanted Qin Chu to be more accommodating around Huo Mian.
Qin Chu was quite happy that this brother-in-law of his wasn’t a weak and spoiled brat that lived off of his parents.
Even though he was quite young, he was very sensible and loved his sister very much.
“Don’t worry, I will never hurt her,” Qin Chu promised Zhixin, man to man.
“Brother-in-law… I still haven’t thanked you yet. Even though you haven’t said anything, but the school has been taking care of me very well. They even gave me a scholarship, and have thought of me first each time something good comes up. I know that’s definitely because of you. Did you work your charms at my school?” asked Jing Zhixin as he scratched the back of his head.
Qin Chu didn’t respond, instead, he asked, “Zhixin, what do you plan to do after you graduate?”
“I haven’t decided yet, but I must find a job first, and earn money to help Sis support this family.”
Qin Chu nodded with praise. “Just tell me which area you want to work in, GK has many subsidiaries, and I’m sure there’s one that suits you. Then, you can start from the bottom and learn lots of things. When the time is right, just come and find me at the headquarters. Of course, this is only my suggestion and invitation. You still have to decide for yourself.”
“Of course! You’re Huo Mian’s little brother, which means that you’re also my little brother. It’s our own family business, so of course you can come.”
Before Jing Zhixin could respond, Huo Mian walked in from the back, with her hands wet from washing vegetables…
“What were you talking about? You two seem really into it,” she asked with a smile.
“Nothing, Zhixin told me not to bully you,” Qin Chu responded.
“Haha, don’t worry, you little brat. Your sister is too aggressive, who’s going to bully me? I’m the one who bullies others.”
Huo Mian lovingly touched Jing Zhixin’s head, and she looked at her younger brother with adoration written all over her face.
After an hour of busy work, Huo Mian helped her mother out and they made eight dishes.
“Mom sure is biased, she made all the dishes that Sis loves to eat,” Jing Zhixin purposely called out.
“I only randomly picked a few to make,” Yang Meirong immediately denied it.
Huo Mian picked up a piece of rib and placed it in Qin Chu’s bowl. “Try this, it’s my mom’s signature dish. No one can make the same flavor, not even the chefs at five-star restaurants.”
Qin Chu picked up the piece of rib and took a small bite. After chewing for a bit, he slowly said, “Auntie Yang’s skills sure are great.”
“Brother-in-law, you shouldn’t be calling her ‘Auntie’, you should call her ‘Mom’,” Jing Zhixin purposefully said, in an attempt to pull Qin Chu and Yang Meirong closer.
Before Qin Chu could speak, Yang Meirong’s expression immediately grew grim. “How can I be called that? I don’t have such a distinguished son, and I’m not as lucky as Mrs. Qin.”
Yang Meirong’s words immediately made Qin Chu and Huo Mian feel terribly awkward…
So, he decided to change the topic and immediately took out a shoebox from underneath the table and handed it to Huo Mian.
“Sis, this is for you, happy birthday.”
Huo Mian took it and opened it, but he nearly fainted when she looked what was inside. It was a pair of black leather flats. The leather looked quite nice, but… it was terribly out of style. It was an absolutely terrible design, and she began truly suspecting her brother’s sense of style.
“Hey… Zhixin, did you grab the wrong one? Did you buy this for Mom?” asked Huo Mian.
“It’s not for Mom, it’s for you.”
“This is way too out of style… Jing Zhixin, are you sure you’re not joking with me?” Huo Mian felt like she was going to burst into laughter.
