Honeysuckles of the South
Page 2Georgianna had practice the songs she would be singing this weekend at the club. This time Melvin would not be with her. She would be free.
Her aunt Velma told her two years ago to drop Melvin.
"Miss Georgianna, you have a phone call." Said Sugar the maid.
Georgianna went in the house and picked up the receiver.
"Hello." She answered.
It was the very moment she said hello, she quickly laid the phone down. It was her friend Vedella Armstead. Vedella always spoke loud. She never toned down her voice.
"Hey Devoe, are you there?" please pick up the phone; I know you put it down. You always do when I call. Vedella remarked.
"Hi Vedella, answered Georgianna. "Are you ready for tomorrow night?"
"No he's not. I'm getting rid of him for good tonight." Georgianna answered.
"It's about time. I've grown very tire of him and his stuffy ways." Vedella replied.
"Let's stay a few extra days and do some shopping and go to the theater. You know shopping is my passion and business." Vedella remarked.
"That's a brilliant idea Vedella. I can stop in the art galleries. So, come over about 2:00 pm tomorrow.
The plane will be there waiting. Okay." Georgianna remarked.
"Have you heard from Dixie or Jannie? Vedella asked.
"No not yet. But, I know Winola is not coming this time." Georgianna replied.
Georgianna hung up the phone. Vedella is a character. But I love her as a good friend. You can tell her anything and she will listen patiently.
She got her cellphone and called Dixie.
"Hello. Dixie answered.
"How are you? Georgianna asked.
"Just like a jack rabbit, hopping along everywhere." Dixie answered.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" she asked.
"Yes, I am." Dixie answered.
"I talked to her yesterday." Dixie replied.
"Never mind, she just walked in the door."
"Tell her hi and I'll see you ladies tomorrow." Dixie replied and hung up the phone.
"Hey darling, we were inquiring about you." Georgianna replied.
They gave each other a kiss on the cheek.
"Are you in with us tomorrow?" asked Georgianna.
