On the second level, she turned right and headed for the dining room. At the heavy wooden door, she took a deep breath before turning the knob, swinging the door open and entering.

Dressed to the T in a white linen suit, her mother sat seated near the door. A pink camisole adding a splash of colour against her skin.

Blond hair swept up in a French-roll. Chunky gold and ivory jewellery, framed her petite bone structure. Her mother looked up from her digital planner.

Professional makeup applied to porcelain white skin, in neutral and pastel shades could not hide the worry in her blue eyes which was framed by long natural looking fake lashes.

How did mother do it? she wondered envious. Wish I could look like I just walked out of a magazine.

“Good morning mother,” Alex greeted in a sulky tone.

“Good morning darling,” Maria greeted before quickly turning her attention back to her day’s schedule.

The staff stopped for a brief second. “Good morning miss.” They greeted wary.

Her posture straightened before giving a quick stiff nod. Making her way to her usual seat, she was acutely aware of their mental observation regarding her mood. When she reached her seat, she pulled the chair out, legs scraping against the floor.
