Finally, when they all stood before him they dropped to a single knee. Put their fists over their dead hearts, and bowed their heads.

His eyes rested on each subject. Their loyalty touching his heart. Do I have the right to involve them in our fight?He wondered, guilt-ridden.

Silence settled in the room like a wet, cold blanket as the seconds ticked by. Wood crackled under the assault of the flames.

James, a short vampire with a pot-pudding face, looked up. His short fiery red-hair, mocking the blazing fire a couple of feet away.

“My Lord, if I may?” he started to ask with determination.

“James, I know what you want to ask,” Roan snarled, teeth gnashing. “I haven’t changed my mind.” His tone becoming harsh. James started to open his mouth again. “The answer is still NO!”

The veins in Roan’s hands, started to swell with each clenching and flexing at his sides. Please don’t lose your composure, Joseph prayed internally as he observed their leader, worried. Stay strong, he pleaded as all the signs of an impending explosion became visible.

“My Lord, there is still time.” Carl, a general on the autocrat’s side, raised his voice.

A fierce growl shattered the silence. Every dead man cringed. Roan advanced on Carl. Joseph’s hand shot out. Missed! He cursed internally as his hand only held air.
