Dantalion of the Goetia: Taste the Obsession of a Demon

Page 13

The library was about to close and I didn't have much time. I found what I was looking for… The Ars Goetia. It explained that certain demons, when summoned, were compelled to obey whoever evoked them. Each demon was branded with their own demonic seal. It warned to be cautious, and never command or question the demon's purpose. I would just have to wait to find out what that purpose was.

I found a comfortable place to sit outside by Woolsey Hall, researching another book I had checked out of Sterling Memorial Library. This one was on Arabic Mythology. It described a female demon named Lilith. She was believed to originate as a storm demon who seduced men. She would come to them in their sleep and beget children from them. She is said to dwell in the desolate desert. The photo depicted Lilith as a 'Succubus.'

I cut through Cross Campus, past Battell Chapel, making my way along the street past a vine covered brown stone everyone on campus called "The Tomb." It was the meeting place for The Skull and Bones, Yale's secret society. They say the "Bonesmen" held occult initiation rights there and inside the tomb houses a pentagram, ancient artifacts for their rituals and human skulls. My mind was racing about a million things, everything from the Ars Goetia to what type of demonic evil I was about to get myself into. Ritual magick wasn't something one takes lightly.

When I pulled my car in front of my house, I could see Rowan sitting on the front steps two houses down, waving at me. Rowan was my best friend, handsome, I thought, with short black hair and a goatee. He always made me feel better when I was around him. I remember when I first arrived at my house with the rental truck, he immediately came over to help me move my stuff in. I was lifting an unusually heavy box through my front door, and lost my balance. He caught me before I hit the ground, saving a sprained arm and also my stuff. It was always like that with Rowan, always there at the right time. He told me about the neighborhood, and how he a knew where to go and where not to go in downtown New Haven. He also knew about the Courtyard of the Undead. Almost every time I saw him he was smoking a cigarette, and each time I tried to quit smoking, he'd always tempt me. He lived with his aunt and told me if I ever needed anything, I was welcome to stop by. The funny thing about Rowan was that I never needed to stop by, he was always stopping over here, knocking on my front door for one thing or another, but I think mainly, to win me over.
