"Colin, babe, I got the car!" My friend, Elena, squeals as we walk to the student parking lot. "You know I'm not feeling it today, I'm going to walk, Mk?" I mutter. Her face falls and she looks at me full of concern. "Is everything ok? It's too cold to walk!" I nod and hug her, "Go, have fun with Elliot, I'll be fine!" My lips quiver as a freezing gust of wind snaps us apart. She kisses my cheek and hops into her car. Her eyes linger on me as I walk backwards waving and blowing kisses. Something inside of me told me to tell her good-bye. "Love you, Elena Grace!" I shout loudly over the wind. She laughs, "Love you too, Colin Alexandria!" I watch her tail lights fade out in the fog of the winter afternoon. My feet lead me out of the school parking lot and onto the shoulder of the road; I slip my headphones into my ears and press play. ' I’m in love with an angel, heaven forbid made me a believer with the touch of her skin I’d go to hell and back with you stay lost in what we found. Worlds apart we were the same until we hit the ground maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m weak maybe I’m blinded by what I see you wanted a soldier but it wasn't me 'cause I could never set you free...' I sing along just as a scream fills my ears. "Help! Please, help me!" I look around "Hello? Scream again, Hello?" I shout into the fog. The sound of a struggle comes from the woods; I yank my buds out and let them hang down. "Are you ok? Hello, I know I heard someone!" I allow my legs to take over, and I am carried into the woods towards the struggle. "Help, I can't swim, please someone help!" A male voice shouts towards me. I make my legs lift higher and I am face to face with a creek within a few moments. A guy about my age splashes around too far to reach, "Why are you in here?" I ask, forgetting about him calling for help. His face is covered in terror, water and surprise, "Please, help do not leave me help me please?!" He says. I slip my jacket off and without thinking I bound into the freezing water, my brain struggles to register the even more uncomfortable temperature, "Grab my hand, come on, the water is too cold to be in any longer, grab ahold of my arm, please... oh Go-!" I reach out for him just as my foot slips on the edge of the drop off and I am thrust under the water. I struggle to resurface, I move my arms through the water, and they begin to shake from the ice-cold water. "You tried to save me?" The boy is no longer in the water, but on the ground, his hair, light brown and no longer wet, I try to fight the suddenly rough waves. The ability to be able to swim is now taken from me; I slap my hands against the water like the boy had been when I found him. "Help...me- p...please..." I shudder, through my chattering teeth. My body slowly starts to lose its energy, the boy frowns. "Why did you risk your life for mine?" He asks. I am thrust under the water again, I paddle upwards and my head surfaces. "Help! Me... PLEASE-... SOME...ONE HELP ME!" I scream through the water. A hand grasps mine and I am drug through the water and onto something hard. "I am sorry, I am so sorry, human, and I didn't think you were stupid enough to risk your life!" The male sputters, somewhere far away. His face is the last thing I see before my eyelids close and my world goes blank.
