Almost tearfully, Barbara walked to her car, got in, and drove off the campus. She drove with the feeling she had left her heart behind in two places; in Timmy's dormitory room and, yes, she had to admit to herself, in Stephen Collier's office.

It's easy to see, Gail, how impressed you were with Stephen, and thought we might be a match. But you didn't know him as well as I thought you did. I got my hopes up, probably too high. As she drove off the campus and snowflakes began falling on her station wagon's windshield, a cold chill swept over her so she turned the heater on.

Well, I've been alone before. I know how that feels. At first she thought she had turned on the radio instead of the heater. A voice spoke to her faintly in the car, telling her, "Put love, Barbara."

And I will, she vowed, driving into heavier falling snowflakes as tears that had been welled up inside her now poured down her cheeks.
