A Walk on the Water

Page 123

Alannah woke up on her own bed, she saw Jakob sleeping in the chair where Dominc sat when she was sick. She smiled at this, when she stirred to move the blankets, Jakob opened his eyes.

"Morning sleepy head." He said

"Morning yourself, you didn't havbe to sleep in the chair you know. There are guest rooms right next to mine."

"Yes but I wouldn't have been able to heart if anyone entered your room from the deck."

"Always my protector, I've missed that""

"Me too jelly bean"

Jelly bean, she hadn't heard that name since she was a kid, it brought back so many happy memories.

"Jakob I am going to take a shower, go and tell them I will be down in a about twenty minutes alright?"

"No such luck, jelly bean. You can pick out your clothes and take them in the bathroom. I told your fiance that I would protect you until he came back and that is what I aim to do."

"Sometimes I hate big brotthers" she said with a smile. She went to her closet, picked out a simple dress and went into the bathroom, left the door open a crack so that Jakob could hear her, and took her shower. True to her word, twenty minutes later she emerged from the bathroom, dressed and ready for the day. The two of the walked down the stairs talking about the years they missed, she caught the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and a delicious aroma of ham and eggs, mixed in with the smell of a cheroot. She knew what that last smell meant, she picked up her pace a little as they walked towards the kitchen. The sound of voices came from the glass room, both Jakob and her followed the voices. When they walked into the glass room she saw everyone seated around the table eating breakfast and talking. Including someone she had never seen before, this new person was talking to Dominic in a very animated fashion.

The guest was a strong, rather muscular looking man, he appeared to be in his mid fifty's with greying hair and a handle bar moustache. On the table in front of Dominic was a couple of sketches, most likely the pictures of the two men sent by her father. Alannah walked into the room and went to her seat next to Dominic, Jakob went to sit by Erik. As she sat down Alannah glanced down at the sketch that was closest to her. The man in the picture had a neck so thick that it appeared to just go straight down from his head to his shoulders, his hair was thinning, close to nearly bald, he had thick eyebrows that seemed to connect in the middle. This gave him the look of a cartoon character, and she wrinkled her nose and chuckled a little. The man had a well shaped forehead with a strong looking chin. Looking at the man in the picture did not bring any form of recognition to her at all, she wondered who he was and why he was here. Just as she was about to look away, the face in the second sketch caught her attention. She moved the first picture away to get a better look, what she saw made her heart stop, she could not look away. Without even realizing it she had put a hand over her mouth and tears were forming in her eyes. It was as if she were seeing Erik in a picture on the table. She glanced up at Erik and she saw the same recognition in his eyes, it was indeed Eraldo.
